System Administrators, System Managers, PC support personnel and IT professionals interested in understanding Windows 2000 Server in the enterprise network and the Internet.
Prerequisites: No prior knowledge of Windows NT/Windows 2000 is necessary.
Objectives: This hands-on module covers Windows 2000 Server Administration. The participant is introduced to the strengths and features of Windows 2000 Server. Among the topics covered in the module are Windows 2000 Server Installation, user account setup and administration, file and print server setup, multiple servers /domain controllers, fault tolerant file system setup.
Contents: NT Server Objectives: Microsoft Enterprise concepts: a grounding of Microsoft networking. Domains, UNC, and Workgroups.
Installing NT & NT Server: License manager, Migrating Windows Applications, Tape drivers, broadcasting to the network, re-installation; upgrade installation; NT boot disks and rescue disks.
NT RAID systems for fault-tolerance: SLED, RAID, Disk striping and mirroring, repairing failed disk stripes and mirrors. Understanding the NT Registry: Terminology, Registry Keys and hives, fault-tolerance; Remote registry management; Backing up and restoring registries.
Creating and managing user accounts: User manager, security identifiers, pre-built accounts; groups; security policies; System policy editor, User account templates.
Creating and managing directory shares: share names, hiding shares, restricting access, permissions and access control lists, file-ownership in NT, monitoring file and directory access, home directories.
Managing Printing services: Printer setup, sharing printers, printing from DOS, OS/2, Windows; Printer permissions, priorities, access control.
Performance monitoring: Performance monitor; Event viewer; Logging performance data for statistical reports; Tuning disk drives, multitasking and drivers; Archiving event logs. Troubleshooting and disaster recovery: Backup strategies; Planning for disaster recovery; diagnosing server boot failures.
Debugging 2000: Kernel debuggers and crash dumps; Crash dump analysis; Windows NT diagnostic tools.
