M211b: Windows NT/2000 Network Administration - 3 Days
Who Should Attend:
System and Network Administrators, System and Network Managers, PC support personnel and IT professionals interested in understanding Windows 2000 server's application in the Enterprise network and the Internet.
Prerequisites: This module assumes some basic familiarity with Windows NT/2000 system administration. Participants lacking this knowledge are advised to first enrol in M211a: Windows NT/2000 Server System Administration before attending this module.
Objectives: This hands-on module covers Windows 2000 Network Administration for Enterprise Networks. The participant is introduced to Enterprise Networking concepts of Windows NT Server 2000. The topics covered in the module are NT Server networking setup and maintenance, multiple servers and domain controllers, Internet Information Services, DHCP, WINS, DNS, network and performance monitoring and Remote Access Services (Dial-up Networking).
Contents: Connecting PCs and Macs to NT/2000 networks: Connecting DOS, Windows & Mac boxes to
NT: Managing Servers and domain controllers; Server manager capabilities and functions, scheduling, resource control; broadcasting network alerts; directory replication; logon scripts; primary and secondary domain controllers, synchronizing security; databases.
Cross-domain management in NT/2000 networks: Trust relationships, foreign domains, local and global groups; domain models.
TCP/IP on Windows NT: Ethernet addressing, IP addressing and routing; TCP, Sockets and Winsock; DNS; Internet connectivity: SLIP, PPP, LAN; NT as an Internet gateway; RARP, BOOTP, DHCP, WINS; Email, FTP. Tuning and monitoring an NT server network: Network Physical security.
Dial-up networking: Remote dial-in; Internet service provision using Dialup; LAN/WAN gateways using dialup; PPP, SLIP, PPTP, ISDN.
Remote administration: NT Networking administration via command line; NET suite of commands; NT Scripting (shell) tool; Perl, C-shell for Windows NT.
